Characteristic Outcome And Associated Factors Of Covid 19 Cases Admitted To Icu And Mechanically Ventilated At Eka Kotebe General Hospital Addis Ababa Ethiopia 2020 Retrospective Cross Sectional Study
Introduction: As the COVID-19 pandemic is rapidly spreading throughout the worldrnit has taken millions of lives. Among the population the critically ill and those whornhave other co morbidities are largely affected by it. In order to accommodate therngrowing number of critically ill patients and those who require mechanical ventilationrnhospitals are constantly expanding and trying to meet the overwhelming demand.rnTherefore, identifying COVID-19 characteristics, outcomes and associated factorsrnamong patients requiring mechanical ventilation is crucial for resource planning andrnproper management. This study is mainly aimed to assess the characteristic andrnoutcome of COVID 19 cases admitted to ICU and mechanically ventilated patients. rnObjectives: The objective of this study is to assess characteristic, outcome andrnassociated factors of COVID 19 cases admitted to ICU and mechanically ventilated atrnEka Kotebe General Hospital.rnStudy design: hospital based prospective cross sectional study design was used.rnResults: a total of 179 patients were included in this study and the 30 days mortalityrnrate was 59.2 %. 77.1 % of the patients had comorbidities. Male gender, history ofrnDiabetes, CKD and uses of vasopressor and laxatives were associated with 30 daysrnpatient mortality. rnRecommendation: We recommend that Male patients, patients diagnosed withrnDiabetes Miletus, CKD and who are receiving vasopressor therapy should be given arnhigher priority and carefully followed in the ICU to decrease the mortality rate.
