Teaching English As Foreign Language Project Topics
The main purposes of this study were to explore high school EFLrnteachers’ and learners’ perception of CLT and to examine the degree theyrnpractice the CLT principles in their entire classes in Ethiopian HighrnSchool context.rnThe data were collected through questionnaires (for both teacher andrnlearner), classroom observation, and interviews (for both teachers andrnlearners). A questionnaire (consisting of seven thematic groups) of 75rnitems for 26 teachers and of 47 items for 100 learners (who werernrandomly selected from three government high schools); classroomrnobservations on 10 teachers and interview with 10 teachers and 15rnlearners(out of the whole subjects of the questionnaires) werernadministered in March and April 2008 .rnThe overall findings of this study showed that the majority of teachersrn(80.41 %) and more than half (62.33 %) of learners under the study hadrnmildly high levels of perception about CLT tenets. However, the studyrnconversely reveals that there is a clear mismatch between what teachersrnand learners perceive about CLT and what they actually practice in EFLrncontext
