In this study an attempt was made to find out ~lhethe:ror notrnthe °Communicative approach' in the teaching of English ConditionalrnSentences is more effective than the 'Structural Approach'. Torntest thislSnglish functions that employ conditional sentences werernidentified. Then, teaching materials were prepared along the principlesrnof the 'Communicative Approach' and given to three studyrngroupso For the three control groups, teachinJ materials based onrnthe 'Structural Approach' were given.rnAll in alI, 10:2. students" all Amharic speakers, were randomlyrndistributed into six groups~ Out of these, 78 students attendedrnthe experimental classes regularly and took the to10tests given •.Inrnthe scores obtained, the study groups performed better than the controlrngroups at a significance level of .05.
