The aim of this research was to study the relevance of the BusinessrnEnglish course at Commercial College to the needs of employingrnorganizations. Prior to the actual study on the Business English (LBCrn201 ), a general survey study was conducted on equivalent BusinessrnEnglish courses offered by five private colleges in Addis Ababa to s(~ ernthe importance given to such a course. Before selecting the CommercialrnBank of Ethiopia (CBE) for the main study a similar pilot study wasrnalso conducted on three other employing organizations: two banks andrnone soft drink factol)"rnThe course objective, syllabus, textbook contents, test samples, asrnwell as the grades and grade point averages (GPAs) were analyzed firstrnin order to describe and assess the Business English course for presentrnsituation analysis. The target needs of the employed graduates werernthen specified in terms of the most frequent specific communicative andrnprofessional skills and the most common language activities under thernmajor macro-skills.rnData were then gathered on these variables using questionnairesrnfor gJ'aduate employees, and semi-structured interviews for branchrnmanagers, supervisors and section heads of the CBE.
