The core issue in this research was Utilization of children's literature inrnsecond-cycle primary schools. The research aimed at investigating secondrncycle primary school teachers and students use of children's literature.rnTo do this descriptive survey method of research was employed. Eightrngovemment and private second cycle primary schools of Addis Ababarnwere the target data areas. Teachers, students, librarians ancL principalsrnof the respective schools were data sources where by 83 teachers, 221rnstudents, 8 librarians and 8 principals were partakers. Questionnairesrnand Observation checklists were the major data gathering tools. Thernresults indicated that most teachers did not get medium-sensitive trainingrnto use children's literature. Many teachers were not familiar to make usernof literature in the instnLction. The less attention given to children'srnliterature in the curriculum and shortage of books were also set backs.rnShortage of budget was a part of the shortages too. Many teachers did notrnhave regularly planned literature activities for use of children's literature.rnStudents were not encouraged to use children's books to supplement therntextbooks. Textbook was taken unduly as a sole feeding bottle. A specialrntime for recreational reading or sustained silent reading was not providedrnin most second cycle primary schools. I Based upon the above findings thernresearcher has come to deduce that second-cycle primary schools had nornor little capacity to utilize children's literature and reading to leam in thernselected schools has been highly bound to ordinary copying of text data.rnThe sole and proximate professionals, the teachers themselves have beenrnused to dispensing information, not guiding pupils wide reading habits.rnThis, in tum, has made the whole work or pupils reading to leam unfnLitJulrnsince it blocks creative envisage. Finally, some recommendations werernfonuarded.
