Teaching - Learning Through Plasma Television And Its Challenges In Selected Secondary Schools Of Addis Ababa

The main purpose of this study was to understand the nature of teaching- learningrnthrough plasma TV in government secondary schools. The study further examinedrnthe functions and roles of plasma TV instruction in classrooms and its influences.rnBesides, the roles of classroom teachers and the students learning situationrnthrough plasma TV were issues addressed in the study. To achieve thesernobjectives, data were collected from the four purposely selected governmentrnsecondary schools of Addis Ababa through questionnaires, interviews, documentrnanalysis and observation. The respondents were randomly selected by usingrnlottery method to fill the questionnaires, whereas the participants were purposelyrnselected on the basis of cooperativeness and experience to be interviewed. As thernstudy was more of qualitative approach, the data were presented and analyzed inrnnarrative form and those data gathered through questionnaires were analyzedrnquantitatively by using percentage as statistical method in addition to my ownrnreflective analysis. The finding revealed that, almost all teachers and studentsrndidn’t take training on how to use plasma TV. Most teachers and students didn’trnhave positive attitude towards plasma TV. The needs of individual learner couldn’trnbe addressed through plasma teaching method and it couldn’t foster students’rncritical thinking and reasoning abilities. Besides, it erodes the human relationrnbetween teachers and students. Therefore, the ministry of education, plasma TVrndevelopers and other concerned bodies should make some sorts of modification onrnthe speed of transmission and on the medium of instruction. Teachers andrnstudents need to get sufficient know-how and skills to go hand in hand withrnplasma TV
