The objective of this thesis "Be lie fs in three AmharicrnProse Fictions : A Structuralist Point of View" is to examinernthe sociological and literary values of Sideteqnaw, Tikur Demrnand Gunqun. So, it deals with some of the culture bound termsrnwhich reflect these social and literary values. The study isrnbased on literary analysis and field work.rnThe research revealed that social relations andrnpsychological constitutions of a society are interrelated. 1)rnThere are times when culture contradicts religion, 2) religionrnis secondary to personal interests and also people becomernagainst their religion when they need immediate solutions forrnproblems encountered, 3) masculinity (bravery) is reflectedrnvis-a-vis femininity. Therefore, the culture of the peoplernwhich is portrayed in the texts seems to exhibit a dual naturernwhich contradicts one another.rnThis study has four chapters. The introduction is aboutrnthe methodology the researcher used in analysing the textsrnand, the difficulties she faced during the field works.rnThe second chapter is the literature review of relatedrnworks. In addition to this, some key terms which are importantrnfor the literary analysis are defined.rniirnThe third chapter is about perception of key terms whichrnmake the books so ref lecti ve of cuI tural phenomena. Thernfourth chapter deals with the literary contribution of the keyrnwords analysed in the preceding chapter. In the conclusion,rnthe findings of the research are presented briefly. Finally,rnthe interviews held with the authors and other informants arernin appended in the order of the interviews conducted.
