The principal objective of this study was to identifo the contribution of TVET inrnpoverty reduction in Addis Ababa City Administration. The degree of poverty can bernreduced in to a significant level by the contribution of TVETs. In order to gatherrnrelevant information, 2 TVET Colleges, 2 TVET institutions, 54 TVET officials, 192rnTVET graduates, 43 TVET graduate employers and 2 organizations working withrnTVET graduates were subject of the study. Based on the major themes (basicrnquestions) of the study data were collected through three questionnaires and anrninterview were conducted and analyzed. Finally, summary of major findings,rnconcluding remarks and recommendations have been made based on the majorrnthemes of the research. The research results revealed that the current practice ofrnTVETs in order to alleviate poverty was critical. The major determinant factors forrnincrease of livelihood andjob creation of TVET graduates were in and out ofTVETsrnfactors such as the lack of proper vocational counselor and lack of willingness tornhire employer. Based on the above findings, the following recommendations arernforwarded.·(1) the TVET objectives regarding poverty reduction in general incomernenhancement and self-employment in particular need to be revised in considerationrnof the current socio-economic and political status of the country in general and therncity of Addis Ababa in particular. (2) there should be open opportunity for TVETrngraduates in order to participate in higher education institutions. (3) in order tornsatisfY the employers interest the training institutions should produce competent andrnefficient graduates by strengthening their internal efficiency and improving thernquality of training at all levels. (4) In order to upgrade the TVET trainers andrnmanagement staff, the Education Bureau in collaboration with the Ministry ofrnEducation and higher institutions should prepare a curriculum for in-servicernprogram during summer vocations, especially in vocational education managementrnprogram. (5) TVETs should establish labor market information department in theirrninternal structure.
