The objectives of this survey study were to assess thernprevalence, major pushing and pulling factors, major psychological and healthrnquensequence and to suggest possible recommendations for practitioners,rngovernment and policy n;akers of women and child traffic1cing for sexualrnexploitation in some selc cted area of Addis Ababa. Using the Palermorndefinition of trafficking a ld adequate sample from Kebele 02/03 of KolfernKeranyo Sub City, the present study found that 63.6 % of women andrnchildren in this particular area were trafficked from different parts of therncountry, the majority of them were from Amhara region particularly fromrneastern part of Gojam. Different pushing and pulling factors including poverty,rnthe searc't for employment and better life, pmmise of education and falsernpmmises for a better job which fuelled and encouraged them to leave theirrnhome and village. Although families and relatives were also involved inrntrafficking process, friends and local brokers enhanced the illegal act of In countryrntrafficking. Findings suggest that trafficking of women and childrenrnare at risks to the physical, psychological, and social- emotional development.rnImplications for psychology and social policy, in terms of prevention andrnpsychosocial rehabilitation for children who have been victimized, are alsornpresented. Strategies need to be developed to establish a rehabilitationrnprogram for those interested to discontinue prostitution along with effort tornminimize trafficking.
