This study investigated age related difference in self-objectification,rnhabitual body monitoring and body dissatisfaction among adolescent andrnyoung adulthood women. In addition it was aimed at identifying thernrelationships among self-objectification, habitual body monitoring andrnbody dissatisfaction. Furthermore it was designed to assess bodyrnperception and identifying whether girls/women are dissatisfied/feelrnanxious about their appearance or not. The study involved 300 randomlyrnselected female students (150 from two high school and 150 fromrnuniversity) from Addis Ababa town. Questionnaire that was designed tornmeasure tendency of self-objectification, habitual body monitoring, bodyrndissatisfaction and body figure perception were used to gatherrninformation from the participants. The gathered data was recorded andrnanalyzed using appropriate statistical packages. The finding revealedrnthat women perceive their appearance fatter than they think they deservernâ€¢ and rate slim or thin body figure as appropriate for social approval, tornattract opposite sex and to appear physically attractive. In addition, thernfinding showed that girls/women feel anxious about their appearance.rnFurthermore the finding disclosed that there was strong positivernrelationship between self-objectification, habitual body monitoring andrnbody dissatisfaction. Finally, it was observed that, while there was agernrelated change in body dissatisfaction among adolescent and youngrnadults, the tendency of self-objectification and habitual body monitoringrnremain the same for the two groups.
