The main objectives of this study were to assess the level of psychosocialrnadjustment and coping strategy of women heading family alone, the "pecijicrnpsychosocial challenges they experienced and the coping mechanisms theyrnadopted. [n light of these objectives, 45 participants who head their family alonernand 45 women in intact families were selected. Out of these 44 women headedrnand 37 women in intact families responded to a scale prepared on psychosocialrnadjustment and coping strategy. [n addition 5 case women (WHFA) wererninterviewed.rnPearson correlation was used to check the relationship of the women 'srndemographic variables with their psychosocial adjustment and coping strategy.rnThe result showed that only income has significant relationship withrnpsychological adjustment while age and income showed a significant relationshiprnwith social adjustment. With regard to coping strategy only age since leading arnfamily alone has showed significant relationship.rnDependent sample t-test showed that the women heading their fam ily alone arernabove average in their social adjustment and coping strategy while they are withrnin the average in their psychological adjustment. On the other hand thernindependent sample t-test showed that in all these three variables the mean scoresrnof the women heading their family alone are significantly lower than the womenrnin intact families.rnThe interview conducted with the five women heading their family alone wasrnanalyzed qualitatively using themes. The women expressed the severe economic,rnsocial and psychological challenges they faced and the coping styles theyrnadopted.rnFrom the findings the researcher concluded that women heading their familyrnalone are in a weakened situation in terms of psychological feeling, socialrnrelationship, and coping mechanisms compared to women in intact families.rnDespite this situation the women have adopted various techniques and are usingrntheir efforts to cope with the situation.
