This study attempts to describe the naming ceremony which is conducted inrnsome localities of Oromia region in Boset Woreda namely Chore Kebelel thernplace between Adama and Wellenchiti in the East, Adulala mariam Kebelelrnthe place between Adama and Sodere in the south, Kuriftu Kebele aroundrnWonji and koka Kebele. It examines the contributions of naming ceremonyrnto social interaction, to identify the role of female relatives in the namingrnceremony and to discover if there is the same naming ceremony for femalernas well as male children. The data was collected from 4 localities usingrninterview questions on 40 elderly people and focus group discussions heldrnwith 32 participants who are living in the stated Kebekes.Both qualitativernand percentage data analysis methods were llsed in this study. The finding ofrnthe study indicates that, all types of naming Ceremony such as Gudifecha,rnMogaassa, and Tuffta are practiced in Boset Woreda. The finding of thernstudy also indicates the importance of these aspects of naming ceremonies inrnstTengthening socialization among parents, relatives and Ethnic groups.rnFinally the paper gives an over all picture of the naming ceremony andrnsuggests that further study could be done to find out the influence of namesrnin individual 's social interaction, self evaluation and cognitive development.
