The purpose of this study was to investigate whether religiosity andrngender have significant contribution on value priorities among SawlarnSenior Secondary School Students in Gamo Gofa Zone. A stratified randomrnsampling technique was used to select . research participants. Threerndifferent instruments, namely, a self-reported questionnaire comprisingrnvalue priorities scale items and religiosity scale items, focus-grouprndiscussion, and semi-structured interview were employed to collect data.rnT-test, Pearson r and interpretative and descriptive methods were used tornanalyze data. T-test result displayed that there is significance difference inrnthe value priorities of male and female students. Females tend to valuernmore 'of tradition, benevolence, and conformity values whereas males tendrnto value more self-direction, achievement and stimulation value. Pearson's rrnrevealed that there is a significance correlation between value prioritiesrnand religiosity. As the degree of commitment to religion increases, peoplerntend to value more of tradition, conformity, benevolence values and tend torngive less emphasis to self-direction, achievement, and hedonism values.rnThe FGD and semi-structured interview results also supplement suchrnfindings. Hospitality, education, trustworthiness, and tolerance were foundrnto be some of the values to be maintained. And procrastination,rnselfishness, ethnicity, terrorism and, dependency were found to be some ofrnthe values that need to be changed. The socialization process in the family,rnthe sex roles, stereotypes, personality differences, unique life experiences,rntemperaments and the culture in which one belongs play the major role inrnvalue priorities. These results highlight teachers in schools, parents in thernfamily, religious leaders in the Church/Mosque, social science researchersrnand community leaders need to work collaboratively in enhancing thernacceptable, "good' values and in discouraging the irrelevant, unacceptable,rnretarding and perhaps "negative' values.
