The mazn purpose of the study was to investigate therndrawback of placement of trainees into different fields ofrnstudy in the government TVET colleges of Addis Ababa thatrnhas been found to be a controversial issue. This is becausernthe new entrants possibly lack clear self-understanding,rnhave inadequate information about the fields of specializationrneach training colleges offers in particular and about the TVETrnprogram in general.rnA descriptive survey method of study was employed tornidentify the major problems that came across to thernplacement of trainees in three selected government TVETrncolleges of Addis Ababa. These sample TVET Colleges werernselected on the basis of purposive sampling techniquesrndepending on the nature and size of the respondents. Thernsubjects of the study were 97 Instructors, 474 Trainees, 9rnDeans, 6 Counselors of TVET colleges and 6 TVET Experts ofrnAddis Ababa City Education Bureau.rnInformation was also obtained using questionnaires whichrncontained both closed and open-ended questionsrnThe result of the study depicted that placement of traineesrnwas not largely based on the interests of trainees and werernnot given initial orientations that help them join theirrnrespective fields and adjust themselves to their schoolrnenvironment. Trainees were not assisted to solve theirrnvocational problems through counseling services andrnguidance officers did not provide the necessary informationrnon job opportunities and other personal development. Thernplacement criteria that were formulated by the concernedrnbody were not clear and open to all categories of trainees.rnBased on the finding, conclusions and recommendations forrnthe improvements of the setback are forwarded.
