This thesis aims at investigating the current problem encountered inrnimplementing office administration and secretarial technology training which isrnone of the focus areas of TVET colleges in Addis Ababa City Administration andrnthereby forward possible suggestions for the improvement of its programs andrnemployment opportunities of office administration and secretarial technologyrngraduates.rnThe thesis attempts to look into trainees' academic competence, interest ofrnattending program, admission criteria and. opportunities of self employment;rntrainers' qualification, competence and experience; managerial competency asrnwell as managerial experience of individuals in responsible position, teachingrnmaterials, budgets, curriculum relevance and apprenticeship training.rnTo this end a descriptive survey research method was employed for the study.rnThe sample TVET colleges were selected from AA City Administration namely,rnEntoto, AA Tegbaried and General Wingate TVET colleges. The subjects of thernstudy include 160 trainees, 26 trainers, 9 deans, 7 vocational counselors and 4rnAA Administration Bureau TVET office heads. Stratified simple random andrnpurposive sampling techniques were employed to select sample TVET collegesrnand respondents. Questionnaire, interview, observation and document analysisrn. were used for the purpose of collecting data.rnThe results of the study depicted that most trainees in office administration andrnsecretarial technology colleges are not placed on the basis of their choice andrninterest. Trainers, vocational counselors, facilities and other infrastructure arernfar from the standard set in the college legislation in 2005. Moreover, thernresults indicated that almost all TVET colleges do not have institutional set uprnrequired by college legislation. The psychological readiness and resourcerncapacity of organizations to provide on-the-job training was also very low. Withrnregard to employment opportunities, there is sufficient wage as well as self employmentrnopportunities.rnHence, it is concluded that the status of TVET colleges in AA exhibits differentrnchallenges; however, employment prospects are promising. In line with thernabove findings and conclusions, therefore, it was recommended that TVETrncolleges should as much as possible, try to meet the standard set by collegern. legislation with regard to their staff and other requirements. It is also good, ifrnTVET colleges seek permanent solution to the problem of finding trainingrnprograms. Furthermore, in order to be responsive to the needs of the labourrnmarket, it is recommended that TVET colleges establish departments. Stillrnfurther, as part of the endeavor to alleviate employment problems the collegesrns hould have to give more emphasis to the potential contribution of self employmentrnand the informal sector in creating wide employment opportunities.
