Global energy demand has increase tremendously overtime; constraints
impose by the prevailing energy crises resulted in the search for a viable
alternative of energy development. Energy sources from fossil fuels and
related renewable types arc not enough due to shortage, fluctuations and the
hike in price.
This research intends to highlights the imperatives of Solar Energy as an
alternative source of energy supply. The research focuses its attention to
the fundamentals of International Energy Agency (I.E.A), which encourages
energy potential nations in Solar and Nuclear etc to established energy
research commissions. This led to decree establishment of Solar and
Nuclear Centres in Nigeria, as a potential energy zone. The essence of
which is to see to the development of Solar and Nuclear raw materials as a
viable means of power supply, for industrial, domestic and even export
demand. The Nigerian Solar and Nuclear Energy Commission, which is
under the Presidency, is affiliated and sited in some academic Institutions for
the purpose of achieving such energy objectives.
This research is concern with the Solar Energy Programme, in terms of
environmental research and Architectural requirements. Currently, the main
Solar Energy Research Centre in Sokoto, as a research agency is inadequately
functional, there is a need for a standard and well equipped
Energy Research Centre in order to achieve the goals and objective of the
Solar Energy Research Development in this nation.
