A lot of researches have been conducted to assess the overall conditions ofrneducation in Ethiopia. This thesis paper, though prepared for partialrnfulfillment for the requirements of the degree of masters, it is aimed atrnassessing the status and challenges of vocational guidance and counselingrnservices in some selected technical and vocational education and trainingrncolleges of Addis Ababa.rnAccordingly, in this study two known TVET colleges, namely, Entoto andrnAddis Ababa Tegbareid were selected by purposive sampling technique. Therntwo colleges are currently offering a variety of courses to trainees withrn10+ 1, 10+2 and 10+3 programs .Besides training the trainees with differentrncourses the college are also engaged in job searching activities. Thereforernthe colleges in general, are preparing a young, productive, skilled humanrnpower every year.rnThis research is conducted to find obstacles and constraints that hinder therncollege from addressing the objectives especially in the service given byrnvocational guidance and counseling office. While the study was conducted,rnquestionnaires and interviews were used to collect data. Moreover;rnimportant materials were reviewed to find tangible and relevantrninformations which support the research to be fruitful. While this researchrnwas conducted, all the deans and counselors were active participants.rnMoreover, instructors and trainees were also involved .Because of the factrnthat the instructors and trainees were a lot in number simple and stratifiedrnsampling technique is used to select them from the totalrnpopulation. Questionaires were distributed to and collected from deans, vicerndeans, counselors and trainees where as interview was administered torninstructors. Accordingly, 100% of deans, vice deans and counselors werernparticipants of the study. Regarding instructors and trainees, fzfleenrninstructors from a total of one hundred seventy instructors of En toto and tenrnfrom the total of ninety nine of Tegbareid were randomly selected;rnfurthermore one hundred trainees were selected from the two collegesrnrandomly.rnAfter all, the data collected were analyzed and interpreted. There is norndoubt that the implementation of guidance and counseling in Ethiopia is stillrndeveloping in spite of the fact that it has long history. Therefore, it will not bernexaggerating to say counseling service were rudimentary in the near past orrneven right now. The researcher is forced to say so standingfrom thernparticipant' responses, the vocational guidance and counseling service atrnboth colleges were unsati:,factory.rnIt is unquestionable that in order to upgrade the guidance and counselingrnservice not only the professionals but also deans, instructors and traineesrnshould play their own part. The implementation of the service should not bernleft aside only to counselors to address the requirements of the service. It isrnthrough inspiring and full participation of the school community andrnconcerned offices that the meeting of the goal is possible
