This paper is concerned with the analysis of poemsrncollected from nine Amharic magazines published from 1956 torn1995 E.C. The magazines understudy are: 'Menen', 'Yekatit',rn'Efoyta', 'Sendek', 'Tsedey', 'Goh', 'Tobia', 'Telenegarit',rnand ' Birri tu' .rnIn this thesis, the nature of the poems published in thernmagazines are observed. The recurrent themes of the poems atrnthe different regimes are identified and analyzed. Theirrnrelation to the respective administration is discussed . Therntrends taken by the themes during the last 40 years are tracedrnand discussed in line with the social changes that took placernduring the past years. The social and political phenomena thatrncould have a possible influence on the publication andrnproduction of the poems are assessed through interviews andrnquestionnaires and the results are used in the analysis ofrntheir impact.rnThe research examines all those poems in the 8 magazinesrnwhich used to be and which are still published by threerndifferent publishers. The focus of the study is especiallyrnthose poems which deal with the social, political and economicrnissues of the society and so they are dealt well here . In thernresearch, an attempt is made to put light on the majorrnproblems of the society at every regime in the last 40 years.
