Emory University Scholar Programs 2027 In The Usa: Partial To Full Merit Scholarships For First-year International Students

Emory University Scholar Programs 2027 in the USA: Partial to Full Merit Scholarships for First-Year International Students

2026 International Student Financial Guide

Securing a Fully Funded Scholarship is only the first step. Many Nigerian students are now utilizing No-Cosigner Student Loans through providers like MPOWER Financing and Prodigy Finance to cover living expenses in the USA, Canada, and the UK.

Proof of Funds & GRE Waivers

If you are applying to Ivy League or Russell Group Universities, look for programs offering Graduate Assistantships. Many top-tier universities are currently granting GRE and GMAT Waivers for African applicants with strong professional backgrounds or high GPAs from recognized institutions.

WES Evaluation and English Tests

For Canada and the US, a WES Course-by-Course Evaluation is often mandatory. Additionally, if your degree was taught in English, you may qualify for an IELTS/TOEFL Waiver, saving you significant costs during the Graduate Admissions process.

Applications are now open for the Emory University Scholar Programs 2027, a merit-based scholarship route for outstanding first-year students starting at Emory University in the United States in Fall 2027. Emory University, in Atlanta, Georgia, offers partial to full merit-based scholarships through these programs, including the Woodruff Scholars Program, and international applicants are eligible to be considered.

This is not a separate scholarship form. If you want to be considered, you apply for first-year admission to Emory University and answer “Yes” when the application asks whether you are interested in being considered for the Emory University Scholar Programs. Emory University is clear on this point: you will not be considered otherwise.

What does the scholarship cover?

Emory University describes the Scholar Programs as offering partial to full merit-based scholarships. The Woodruff Scholars Program is the flagship program within this route, and Woodruff Scholars also gain access to resources, programming and a scholars community designed to help them grow, lead and make an impact at Emory and beyond.

Award levels vary, so do not assume every scholar receives the same amount. The official Scholar Programs page describes the range as partial to full merit-based scholarships, and scholarships are renewable for up to eight regular academic-year semesters of undergraduate study, provided students maintain high standards of personal and academic excellence and meet the requirements of their program.

Who can apply? Eligibility requirements

To be considered for the Emory University Scholar Programs for Fall 2027, you must:

- Be applying for first-year undergraduate admission to Emory University for Fall 2027

- Apply to Emory College, Oxford College, or both — one application covers both colleges

- Be a first-year applicant, including a homeschooled applicant; Emory University states that first-year, homeschooled and international applicants, regardless of citizenship, can apply to be a Woodruff Scholar

- Submit all required application materials by the Scholar Programs deadline for your admission plan

- Answer “Yes” to the Scholar Programs question on your Emory application

Selection for the merit-based scholar programs is administered by Emory University's Office of Admission in partnership with Emory faculty. About 10,000 students apply to be scholars each year, and 175 to 200 students are selected as finalists. Applicants who are not selected as program finalists are still fully reviewed for admission under their selected application plan and are automatically considered for other merit-based scholarships.

The scholar selection process is completely separate from the financial aid process. When a student is eligible for both a merit scholarship and financial aid, merit scholarships are awarded first, and students who also applied for financial aid may be eligible for need-based grants and loans if there is remaining need beyond the merit scholarship award.

How to apply: step-by-step

There is no separate Scholar Programs application form. Follow these steps:

1. Choose your admission plan: Early Decision II or Regular Decision for the remaining Scholar Programs deadline in this cycle.

2. Submit your Emory University first-year application and all required application materials by the Scholar Programs deadline for that plan.

3. When your application asks, “Are you interested in being considered for the Emory University Scholar Programs?”, answer “Yes”.

4. Complete the rest of the admission process for Emory College, Oxford College, or both, as you selected.

5. If you are selected as a finalist, you will be notified by the end of February, with finalist visits and scholarship awards in late March.

Application deadline — read this carefully

The remaining Scholar Programs deadline for Fall 2027 is:

- 15 November 2026 — Early Decision II and Regular Decision Scholar Programs deadline

Emory University's Early Decision I Scholar Programs deadline was 1 November 2026, so that route has now passed. This is the key timing trap in this scholarship: Emory University's general Regular Decision application deadline is 1 January, but if you want Scholar Programs consideration under Regular Decision, your complete application and all required materials must be submitted by 15 November 2026, not 1 January.

Early Decision is binding, while Regular Decision is non-binding. Emory University also notes that scholar awards are not finalised until the spring, so if your ability to enrol depends on receiving a specific merit scholarship, consider applying under Regular Decision and meeting the 15 November Scholar Programs deadline.

Do not wait until the last day: every required application material must be submitted by the deadline, not just the application itself.
