Birmingham High Fliers Scholarship 2027: £5,000 Uk

University of Birmingham Postgraduate High Fliers Scholarship January 2027 in the UK: £5,000 for International Master's Students — No Separate Application

2026 International Student Financial Guide

Securing a Fully Funded Scholarship is only the first step. Many Nigerian students are now utilizing No-Cosigner Student Loans through providers like MPOWER Financing and Prodigy Finance to cover living expenses in the USA, Canada, and the UK.

Proof of Funds & GRE Waivers

If you are applying to Ivy League or Russell Group Universities, look for programs offering Graduate Assistantships. Many top-tier universities are currently granting GRE and GMAT Waivers for African applicants with strong professional backgrounds or high GPAs from recognized institutions.

WES Evaluation and English Tests

For Canada and the US, a WES Course-by-Course Evaluation is often mandatory. Additionally, if your degree was taught in English, you may qualify for an IELTS/TOEFL Waiver, saving you significant costs during the Graduate Admissions process.

If you are planning a taught Master's degree in the UK in January 2027, the University of Birmingham's Postgraduate High Fliers Scholarship is one of the simplest awards to qualify for — because there is no separate scholarship form to fill in. If you meet the criteria and accept your unconditional offer by the deadline, the £5,000 is applied automatically as a tuition fee discount.

What the scholarship covers

The Postgraduate High Fliers Scholarship for January 2027 offers an automatic £5,000 tuition fee discount to international-fee-paying students from select countries studying a taught Master's programme at the Birmingham campus in January 2027.

The discount is applied against your tuition fees once you complete online registration and are marked as 'Normally Registered'. The university notes that you will need to manually deduct the £5,000 from the standard tuition fees shown in your offer letter when setting up fee payment, because invoices issued at the start of the year display the full fee before deductions are applied. If you have already paid your full tuition fee in advance, you can request a refund for the scholarship amount once enrolled.

Who is eligible?

To be eligible, you must meet all of the following criteria:

  • You are intending to study full-time on one of the eligible programmes in January 2027 on the University of Birmingham's UK campus.
  • You are domiciled (permanently resident) in one of the select countries listed below. Domicile means the country where you are permanently resident — it is not the same as nationality or citizenship. You must be domiciled in one of the eligible countries at the time of application, and you will not be eligible if you are permanently domiciled in the UK at that time.
  • You are classified as an international-fee-payer for tuition purposes by the University.
  • You are self-funding your tuition fees. Students in receipt of a full or partial tuition fee scholarship or sponsorship from an external organisation are not eligible, and the award will be withdrawn if such funding comes to light.
  • You are not already studying a postgraduate taught degree at the University of Birmingham.
  • Your programme is full-time and on campus. Part-time study, online or distance-learning programmes, and programmes at the University of Birmingham Dubai campus are not eligible.

The scholarship is available only for the following full-time Master's programmes starting in January 2027 at the Birmingham campus:

Check the official scholarship page to confirm your chosen programme is still listed before you apply, as the university reserves the right to withdraw the scholarship offer to new applicants at any time.

Eligible countries of domicile

Open to all nationalities, but you must be living in (domiciled in) one of the following countries:

Argentina, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Cameroon, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Egypt, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Iran, Ivory Coast, Jamaica, Kenya, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Senegal, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand, Trinidad & Tobago, Turkey, Uganda, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Vietnam, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

This includes Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, Egypt and several other countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America — so do not assume you are excluded because of your nationality alone. What matters is where you are permanently resident.

How to apply — no separate form

There is no separate scholarship application for the £5,000 Postgraduate High Fliers Scholarship. The steps are:

  1. Apply for one of the eligible full-time taught Master's programmes at the University of Birmingham's UK campus for January 2027.
  2. Meet all the conditions in your offer letter, including paying your deposit, so that you receive an unconditional offer.
  3. Accept your unconditional offer by 23:59 (UK time) on 7 December 2026. The university strongly encourages you to accept as soon as possible so your status is recorded in time in its admissions system.
  4. If you meet the eligibility criteria, you will receive an email confirming your scholarship award once you have accepted your unconditional offer by the deadline. You will also receive a Notification of Award email, which you can use in your visa application to UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI), and the discount will be reflected in your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS).

Please note: the award cannot be held in conjunction with any full-fee scholarship. It can be held alongside some other University of Birmingham departmental scholarships, provided the terms of both awards allow it — check the terms and conditions for each award before accepting.

Important deadline reminder

Deadline: 7 December 2026 at 23:59 UK time — accept your unconditional offer by this time.

This is a January 2027 intake, so the window is short. If you are still waiting on documents or a deposit payment, act now rather than leaving acceptance to the final day.
