Brandeis Wien Scholarship 2027: Full Need For Students

Brandeis University Wien International Scholarship 2027 in the USA: Full Demonstrated Financial Need for International Undergraduates — No Separate Application — Deadline 15 January 2027

2026 International Student Financial Guide

Securing a Fully Funded Scholarship is only the first step. Many Nigerian students are now utilizing No-Cosigner Student Loans through providers like MPOWER Financing and Prodigy Finance to cover living expenses in the USA, Canada, and the UK.

Proof of Funds & GRE Waivers

If you are applying to Ivy League or Russell Group Universities, look for programs offering Graduate Assistantships. Many top-tier universities are currently granting GRE and GMAT Waivers for African applicants with strong professional backgrounds or high GPAs from recognized institutions.

WES Evaluation and English Tests

For Canada and the US, a WES Course-by-Course Evaluation is often mandatory. Additionally, if your degree was taught in English, you may qualify for an IELTS/TOEFL Waiver, saving you significant costs during the Graduate Admissions process.

Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts, runs one of the oldest international scholarship programmes in the United States — and it works differently from most awards on this list. The Wien International Scholarship Program meets the full demonstrated financial need of each recipient, based on a complete review of their financial documentation, and there is no separate scholarship application at all. If you are an exceptional international applicant, you are considered for Wien simply by applying for admission to Brandeis — but the catch is a hard one: you must flag your intention to apply for financial aid on your admission application and submit the CSS Profile by the admission deadline, because first-year applicants who apply for financial aid after admission will not be considered for scholarship funding. For Fall 2027 entry, that means Thursday 15 January 2027 for Regular Decision and Early Decision II.

Key deadline: submit your Brandeis first-year application — and the CSS Profile — by 15 January 2027 (Regular Decision or Early Decision II). Early Decision I and Early Action (3 November 2026) have already passed, so Regular Decision is now the open route for most international applicants. There is no separate Wien deadline and no separate Wien form; the admission application is the scholarship application.

What the scholarship offers

The Wien International Scholarship Program has funded hundreds of Brandeis students from all over the world since it was established in 1958. Its value is need-based rather than a fixed dollar amount:

  • Full demonstrated financial need: the scholarship meets the full demonstrated financial need of each recipient, determined from a complete review of the family's financial documentation — so the award is sized to what your family can actually afford, rather than a set figure
  • Renewable for the full degree: Wien is listed among Brandeis merit scholarships that are renewable for up to eight undergraduate semesters, provided you meet the renewal requirements each year
  • Full range of study: Wien Scholars study across Brandeis's undergraduate programmes in the arts, sciences, humanities and social sciences — there is no restricted list of subjects
  • A global community: the programme brings students from every corner of the globe to campus, and Wien Scholars are expected to be active global citizens in the Brandeis community

Be clear about what this covers: Wien is a need-based award, not a fixed-amount prize. The amount you receive depends on your family's demonstrated financial need, and you must submit complete financial documentation — including the CSS Profile — for Brandeis to calculate it. Brandeis states that it meets 100% of demonstrated financial need for international undergraduates who apply for aid during the admission process, so a Wien award can cover the full cost of attendance for a student with full need — but the figure is personal to each recipient, and you must reapply for financial aid each year.

Who is eligible?

To be considered for the Wien International Scholarship Program, you must:

  • Be an international applicant applying for first-year undergraduate admission to Brandeis for Fall 2027 — the programme is for international students, and it is awarded to exceptional international applicants
  • Demonstrate strong academic achievement — Wien Scholars are chosen from applicants with outstanding academic records
  • Show extracurricular or community involvement — the programme looks beyond grades, for students who will contribute to campus life and the wider community
  • Apply for financial aid as part of your admission application — you must indicate your intent to apply for financial aid on the admissions application and submit the CSS Profile (and supporting financial documents) by the same deadline as your admission application. If you apply for aid only after admission, you will not be considered
  • Apply directly to Brandeis via the Common Application or the Coalition Application — Brandeis warns that it does not partner with any external individuals or organisations for the selection of Wien Scholars, so do not pay anyone who claims to secure a Wien award for you

How to apply

  1. Apply for first-year admission to Brandeis via the Common Application or Coalition Application by 15 January 2027 for Regular Decision (decisions by 1 April 2027) or Early Decision II (decisions by 15 February 2027). Early Decision is binding; Regular Decision is not.
  2. Indicate on the admission application that you intend to apply for financial aid. This is the step that puts you in line for Wien consideration — miss it, and you cannot add a financial aid application later.
  3. Submit the CSS Profile by 15 January 2027 — the same day as your admission application — together with the parent and student financial documentation Brandeis requests. International students use the CSS Profile rather than the FAFSA for need-based aid.
  4. There is no separate Wien form, essay or interview for the scholarship itself. Selection is made from your admission application and financial documentation; Brandeis also automatically considers all applicants for its merit scholarships (including the prestigious Justice Brandeis Scholarship), with no additional application required.
  5. Watch for your decision by 1 April 2027 (Regular Decision) or 15 February 2027 (Early Decision II). Scholarship recipients are notified with their admission decision.

Key dates for Fall 2027 entry

  • 3 November 2026 (passed): Early Decision I and Early Action deadlines
  • 15 January 2027: Regular Decision and Early Decision II application deadline; CSS Profile and financial aid documents due the same day
  • 15 February 2027: Early Decision II decisions released
  • 1 April 2027: Regular Decision decisions released
  • September 2027: Studies begin at Brandeis University, Waltham, Massachusetts

Why this one is worth noting

Most US universities that meet full financial need for international students are the handful of need-blind, hyper-selective names everyone already knows. Brandeis is different: it is a well-regarded private research university that openly commits to meeting 100% of demonstrated financial need for international undergraduates — and its Wien programme, running since 1958, is the dedicated vehicle for doing it. The practical trap is entirely procedural. There is no scholarship form to chase, so nothing reminds you to file the CSS Profile; and if you apply for admission without flagging financial aid, the door closes for good. Put the CSS Profile on the same to-do list as the Common Application, submit both by 15 January 2027, and make sure your family's financial documents are complete — that is the whole application.
