A new quinoxaline derivative (NHOPD) was synthesized by a one step reaction betweenrnninhydrin and o-phenylenediamine . It formed metal complex when reacted withrnCuCl2.2H2O in ethanolic chloroform medium .The quinoxaline derivative(NHOPD) wasrncharacterized on the basis of IR,NMR,MS and UV-VIS spectral data.rnThe Cu-NHOPD complex was characterized by analytical, conductivities, spectralrn(AAS,IR,UV-VIS) and magnetic data. Involvement of exocyclic carbonyl oxygen andrnone of the quinoxaline nitrogen in coordination was concluded, such that the ligandrnbehaved as a neutral ON bidentate. Conductance measurement indicates a 1:2 electrolyticrnnature of the complex .Electronic spectral and magnetic susceptibility data suggestrnsquare planar geometry for the complex with molecular formula [CuL2]Cl2.2H20rn(L=NHOPD
