This work presents the results of combined electrical resistivity and gravity surveysrncarried out over two rural communities of Deka Bora and Tulu Rie, two largelyrnpopulated rural communities on the Mojo-shenkora road, with the objective ofrnlocating preferred borehole sites for the extraction of groundwater for livestock andrndomestic use.rnThe areas found in the western margin of Main Ethiopian Rift are rich in agriculturalrnproducts but are in severe shortage of drinking water for most part of the year.rnSeveral attempts by various governmental and non governmental agencies to extractrnwater from the subsurface have failed. Within these locations and in areas close byrneven and deep wells have failed to tap groundwater and the search for groundwaterrnhas almost been abandoned in resent times. It was the first objective of the work tornminimize the risk of sinking dry wells by assessing groundwater.rnIt was found from the work that the major groundwater controlling factors arernstructural and a detailed study of these structures and accurate location of thernpreferred borehole site are essential for groundwater search and drilling work tornsucceed. The work has also located some important potential areas for drilling andrnextraction of groundwater in sufficient amounts
