The lakes of the Main Rift Valley suffer from lake level fluctuation due to several natural andrnhuman induced factors. Lake Abiyata, a terminal lake, which is located in the central part ofrnthe main rift of Ethiopia, as many researchers testified, has a problem of level fluctuation.rnThe natural factors that play the important role in governing the level of Lake Abiyata arerninferred to be unstable climatic conditions. The industrial activities that abstract water fromrnthe lake and some land use practices also have considerable impact for the lake levelrnfluctuation. A decision support tool has been developed in order to model the water balancernof the lake and assist in determining how much water could be extracted from the lake, rnwithout affecting its equilibrium state, by observing the monthly level of the lake.rnKeywords: Decision support tool, Water balance, Modelling
