This study assesses the major factors affecting the performance of womenrnentrepreneurs in MSEs. It also addressed the characteristics of womenrnentrepreneurs in MSEs and the challenges they face in the area of technicalrnand business training supports from training colleges/institutes.A sample ofrn181 women entrepreneurs engaged in 5 sectors was taken for the study usingrnstratified and simple random sampling. In the process of answering the basicrnquestions, a questionnaire that include demographic profiles, characteristics ofrnwomen entrepreneurs and their enterprises, factors that affect thernperformance of women entrepreneurs in MSEs and the challenges they face inrntechnical trainings were designed in a closed ended and likert scales. Afterrnthe data has been collected, it was analysed using simple statisticalrntechniques (tables and percentages) and descriptive statistics (mean andrnstandard deviations). The results of the study indicates the personalrncharacteristics of women entrepreneurs in MSEs and their enterprise affectrntheir performance .It also shows that lack of their own premises(land) to runrntheir business, financial access given by micro finances or other lendingrninstitutions, inadequate access to business training,stiff competition in thernmarket place, access to technology and access to raw materials were the keyrneconomic factors that affect the performance of women entrepreneurs inrnMSEs. The study also found that conflicting gender roles or householdrnresponsibilities, network with outsiders and social acceptability were thernmajor social factors that affect these entrepreneurs. The legal andrnadministrative bodies are required to create an enabling environment for therngrowth and development of MSEs, but this study found that access to policyrnmakers, high amount of tax, network with administrative bodies, interest raterncharged and over all legal and regulatory environments were the main factorsrnthat affect women entrepreneurs.The study also found that customer servicerntraining, marketing training, financial report training and entrepreneurshiprntrainings were the main challenges of the entrepreneurs.rnBased on the major findings, recommendations were forwarded to existingrnand potential entrepreneurs, MSEs, Micro finances and other governmentrnbodies
