Partograph is manual base information/data capturing tool during the qualified monitoring ofrnlabour progress, maternal and fetal conditions in labour. If the partograph is used consistently, rnrecorded on correctly, analyzed and interpreted insightfully, can save the lives of bothrnmother and child. The use of the partograph therefore becomes an essential decision-making toolrnto assist the health professionals in making the correct decisions for the woman and her baby..rnThe project aimed to evaluate the know-how of partograph utilization and towards itsrnimprovement among health professionals working in public health facilities to monitor labouringrnmother during delivery and partograph utilization practice of health professionals and providingrnappropriate intervention and conducting post intervention evaluation. rn Facility based cross-sectional descriptive study design was used to determine the know-how ofrnthe partograph among health professionals working in project area. In addition, review ofrndocument was conducted within the selected health facilities. Finally, on the job training wasrnconducted as an intervention to improve the know-how of partograph among the healthrnprofessionals. Training was conducted by the principal investigator for two days. A multi-stagerncluster sampling technique was used for the project. Depending on the main objective of thernproject to evaluate the know-how of partograph utilization towards its improvement, the resultrnrevealed most of the participants were male and young. The participants of the project werernhealth professionals working at health centers (PHCU). Most of the participants served 2-5 yearsrn.The majority of them did not receive in service training on the manegemanent of labour. Few ofrnthem previously used partograph to manage labour. Most of the participants didn’t know therncomponents of the partograph. rn Generally, the project identified that the knowledge and the utilization practice of healthrnprofessionals during the intervention was different from that of post-intervention. This showsrnthat training and managerial commitments did have a greater influence on the utilization ofrnpartograph to monitor labour. Since the know-how of partograph utilization of partograph wasrnpoor, continuing with updating the health professionals regarding obstetric care on the use ofrnpartogram should be provided for all health professions in order to provide the quality ofrnobstetric care in the Zone.
