Background rnEarlier reports of high prevalence of thrombosis and related mortality has led to use of rnanticoagulants being part of the main treatment with varying results. Despite current rnlarge scale data showing credible benefits there are no studies done to determine the rnpattern of anticoagulation use and outcome in COVID patients in Ethiopia.rnOBJECTIVE rnTo assess patterns of anticoagulation and outcome, of COVID-19 patients admitted to rnTASH isolation ward June2020- June 2021.rnMETHODOLOGY rnFacility based retrospective cross-sectional study using secondary data analysis, was rnconducted. Records were retrieved using TASH, isolation log book. 126 patients were rnincluded. Data was analyzed using descriptive and binary logistic regression analysisrnResult rnOf the total 126 cases, Anticoagulation was used in 94 pts 74.6%. Therapeutic dose rnanticoagulation was used in 13(13.8%) pts of which 8 had severe disease. Prophylactic rndose 79(84%), intermediate dose in two pts. UFH was used in 78(82.9%), LMWH rn13(13.8%), DOAC 2(2.2%). only 58.8% of the patients received the full dose of rnprescribed anticoagulation. Pulmonary Thrombo-Embolism occurred in 9 pts of which 8 rnhad severe disease and nearly half were on anticoagulation. Venous thrombosis rnoccurred in 7 pts among those 5 had severe disease. Three out of the seven pts were rnon anticoagulation. In Hospital mortality was (n=14, 11.8%).rnConclusionrnIn conclusion, majority of patients received anticoagulation with UFH in prophylactic rndosage. Anticoagulation use was not associated with diseases severity, in hospital rnmortality or 3 months outcome. Complications of anticoagulation were rare and minor. rnComplications were not associated with poor outcome.
