Assessment Of Knowledge Practice And Associated Factors Of Essential Newborn Care Among Nurses And Midwives Working In Selected Government Hospitals In Addis Ababaethiopia2020.
Background: The time around labor, childbirth and the first days thereafter is when newbornsrnare most vulnerable. Not only at risk of mortality due to complications, they may also acquirernlong-term disabilities. Skilled care during labor and childbirth with prompt management ofrncomplications alone can prevent about 50% of newborn mortality. rnObjective- This study aimed to assess knowledge and practice of essential new born care andrnassociated factors among nurses and midwives working at Addis Ababa government rnhospitals,2020. rnMethods- Institutional based cross-sectional study design was conducted from March 25/2020-rnMay25/2020. A total of 140 midwives and nurses was selected by simple random samplingrntechniques from four public hospitals of Addis Ababa. Data was collected using self adminstredrnquestionnaire and observational checklist after Pre-test was conducted on 5% of the sample sizernat Zewditu hospital .Data was analyzed using SPSS software version 24. Descriptive statistics,rnBivariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses was undertaken. Final result wasrnpresented in texts,tables and graphs. rnResult: Out of 140 70(50.0%) participants have a good knowledge and the rest 70(50%) havernpoor knowledge. Regarding practice of essential newborn care 74(52.9%) participantsrnpracticticed well but the 66(47.1%)s didn''t particicted well. from the respondantsrn78(55.7%)have a knowledge and 75(53.6%) have practice on initiation of breathing. in-servicerntraining was significantly associated with practice of essential newborn care. participants whornget training is three times more likely higher than the participants did not get training [(p=.00)rnCOR (95%CI) 3.82(1.76-8.30)]. rnconclusion: From all participants 47(33.6%) gat service training on immediate or essentialrnnewborn care but 93(66.4%) didnot gat. The Study result showed presence of knowledge andrnpractice gap of essential newborn Care so strengthen in-service training is necessary on nurses rnand midwives on essential newborn Care.
