Ethiopian government has developed and implemented HEP to improve the health status ofrncommunities particularly those who reside in rural areas of the country since 2004/5. The thesisrnfocuses on the assessement of achievements and challenges of the implementation of HealthrnExtension Program. The objective of the study is to assess the achievements and challenges ofrnHealth Extension Program in Goro and Weliso woredas.rnAs to the research methodology, descriptive method was used. Stratified multi- stage clusterrnsampling was employed to select sample households. Six (6) kebeles were randomly selectedrnfrom the two woredas. From these kebeles a total of 150 households were randomly chosen.rnSimple random sampling was used to select Health Extension Workers and Supervisors.rnPurposive sampling was utilised to select woreda health administrators. Schedule questionnaire,rnobservations and interview were applied to obtain first-hand information.rnRegarding research findings, inappropriate ITNs utilisation prevalence was high amongrnhouseholds; people’s attitudes towards using family planning services have not been wellrnchanged; basic preconditions such as construction of health posts, and supply of equipment andrnsupplies were not fulfilled and Health Extension Workers are not competent enough to renderrnquality health services.rnSpeeding up the construction of health posts and supply of facilities, strong health education andrncommunication, integrated refreshing trainings for Health extension Workers are some of thernmajor recommendations put forwarded
