This research aims at assessing the impact of youth empowerment in the lives of micrornand small enterprise (MSE) organized solid waste collector youths in Addis Ababa city. Itrnassessed how being organized in micro and small enterprise change the lives of the youths;rnsocial and economic changes like income, level of education, housing condition andrnparticipation in local decision makings; the challenges of the youths because of theirrninvolvement in MSE as solid waste collection and the major achievement of youth empowermentrneffort by government.rnThe first chapter gives background of the research, the problem statement, thernresearch questions and objectives, and operational definitions. In the past, various developmentrnefforts have been tried to avert the miserable living conditions of the poor; but many of themrnremained unsuccessful. As part of the developing countries, different attempts had been made tornimprove the life of the poor in Ethiopia. Youth empowerment strategy was one of those efforts;rncentral to the work of improving human lives and help people gain power and mastery over theirrnlives.rnThe second chapter is dedicated to the review of relevant literatures for the research.rnThe Ethiopian government has formulated the youth development package to translate in tornaction the national youth policy with the view to alleviate the economic, social and politicalrnproblems of the youths. The overall objective of this strategy was to enable the micro and smallrnscale enterprises play significant role in the national development activities, particularly, in therncreation of employment opportunities and poverty reduction.rnThe third section (Research Methods) encompasses general information of study arearnand its population, the research design, sample size determination, the sampling technique andrndata collection, the research variables, data analysis and ethical considerations. In this study, arnretrospective quantitative survey study design was used to describe and explain the efficiency ofrnempowerment of youths through MSE, whether it brings a meaningful change in lives of solidrnwaste collector youths. For this purpose questioner was prepared and distributed for 122rnrespondents and key informant interview with experts at sub city and woreda level wasrnconducted.rnChapter Four is consecrated to the presentation of the results and discussion, and thernfinal Chapter Five gives conclusion of the research findings and implications. Empowerment isrnbringing a comprehensive change and development among people and does not mean anrnincrease in capital. The findings of the study revealed that event though members monthlyrnincome level, amount of saving, decision making in family and community, and consumptionrnpattern have been increased but respondents literacy level is yet improved, they were notrnreceived different trainings that will help their advancement, they were susceptible to differentrnhealth related injuries and problems and their standard of living is not significantly changed asrna result most of the youths were lived in temporary accommodations
