Queen's University International Admission Awards 2027 in Canada: Up to CAD 100,000 for First-Year International Students — No Separate Application

2026 International Student Financial Guide

Securing a Fully Funded Scholarship is only the first step. Many Nigerian students are now utilizing No-Cosigner Student Loans through providers like MPOWER Financing and Prodigy Finance to cover living expenses in the USA, Canada, and the UK.

Proof of Funds & GRE Waivers

If you are applying to Ivy League or Russell Group Universities, look for programs offering Graduate Assistantships. Many top-tier universities are currently granting GRE and GMAT Waivers for African applicants with strong professional backgrounds or high GPAs from recognized institutions.

WES Evaluation and English Tests

For Canada and the US, a WES Course-by-Course Evaluation is often mandatory. Additionally, if your degree was taught in English, you may qualify for an IELTS/TOEFL Waiver, saving you significant costs during the Graduate Admissions process.

If Canada is on your list for 2027, here is some genuinely good news: Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, automatically considers every international first-year applicant for admission awards worth up to CAD 100,000 over four years. There is no separate scholarship form — your application for admission is your scholarship application. The key date to beat is Sunday 1 March 2027 for most programmes, or Sunday 1 February 2027 if you are applying to Commerce, Health Sciences or Nursing.

Key deadline: apply for admission by 1 February 2027 for Commerce, Health Sciences and Nursing, or by 1 March 2027 for all other first-year programmes. Applications for Fall 2027 opened on 1 October 2026, and Queen's makes offers on a rolling basis from November to mid-May, so applying early is the smart move — the strongest applicants are considered first for the highest-value awards.

What the awards offer

Queen's Dean's International Award program automatically assesses international students entering first year, based on academic achievement. According to Queen's official international admissions pages, the International Admission Award comes in four tiers, each renewable for up to four years:

  • CAD 100,000 — CAD 25,000 per year for four years
  • CAD 80,000 — CAD 20,000 per year for four years
  • CAD 60,000 — CAD 15,000 per year for four years
  • CAD 40,000 — CAD 10,000 per year for four years

These awards are open to applicants to the Faculty of Arts and Science, Smith School of Business (Commerce), Health Sciences, and Smith Engineering. On top of that, every international applicant to any programme is automatically considered for the International Admission Scholarship, worth CAD 9,000 in total, with no application required.

Other automatic awards for international first-years include the Principal Wallace Freedom of Opportunity Award — awarded on academic achievement to international students entering any first-entry undergraduate programme, with preference given to refugee students and then to students demonstrating the greatest financial need from developing countries, renewable for three further years in good academic standing — and the Queen's University International Entrance Scholarship, four awards for students of superior academic ability, again with no separate application. Queen's also awards Principal's Scholarships to the top 3% of students in each programme.

These are partial funding awards, not fully funded scholarships — they reduce tuition significantly over four years, but they do not cover the full cost of study, residence, meals and travel. Budget for the remainder before you apply.

Who is eligible?

  • International students paying international fees — you must be entering the first year of post-secondary study for the first time (CEGEP graduates entering second year remain eligible for admission scholarships)
  • Canadian citizens, including dual citizens, and permanent residents do not qualify for these international admission awards — they are assessed under Queen's domestic award schemes instead
  • Strong grades decide the tier — the awards are based on academic achievement, and Queen's international recruitment pages note averages of 90%+ for Arts and Science and Engineering applicants aiming at these awards
  • First-entry undergraduate programmes — the International Admission Award covers Arts and Science, Commerce, Health Sciences and Engineering; the CAD 9,000 International Admission Scholarship covers all programmes of study
  • No separate scholarship application — you are considered automatically when you apply for admission, so there is nothing extra to submit for these awards

Key dates for Fall 2027 entry

  • 1 October 2026: Applications opened for Fall 2027 entry
  • 1 February 2027: Applications due for first-year Commerce, Health Sciences and Nursing
  • 15 February 2027: Deadline for the mandatory Supplementary Application for Commerce, Health Sciences and Nursing — late submissions are not accepted
  • 1 March 2027: Applications due for all other first-year full-time programmes
  • 31 March 2027: Deadline to submit all supporting documents, including transcripts and English test scores
  • May 2027: All first-year applicants receive an update on their application status by 14 May 2027; offers are made on a rolling basis from November to mid-May

How to apply

  1. Apply for admission to Queen's through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC) — international school-leavers apply this way. There is no separate scholarship application for the Dean's International Award program or the International Admission Scholarship.
  2. Meet the programme deadline — 1 February 2027 for Commerce, Health Sciences and Nursing, or 1 March 2027 for everything else. Apply well before the deadline so your documents and fee status are sorted in good time.
  3. Submit the Supplementary Application by 15 February 2027 if you are applying to Commerce, Health Sciences or Nursing — it is mandatory for those three programmes.
  4. Send all supporting documents by 31 March 2027, including transcripts and English test scores (IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band below 6.0 is the commonly cited minimum where English evidence is required).
  5. Watch for your offer — award decisions come with your admission offer, and offers are made on a rolling basis, so an early application can mean an early answer.

Do not confuse these with the Major Admission Awards

One date you will see in Queen's searches is 8 December 2026 — that is the deadline for Queen's Major Admission Awards, which are a separate, application-required scheme. According to Queen's official page, Major Admission Awards are available only to Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada, or protected persons. As an international student, that scheme is not your route: you are considered automatically for the Dean's International Award program when you apply for admission, and the dates that matter for you are 1 February and 1 March 2027.

Why this one is worth noting

Queen's is one of Canada's oldest and most respected universities — founded in 1841 in Kingston, Ontario, and a member of the U15 group of Canadian research universities — and the Dean's International Award program is one of the more generous automatic schemes in the country: up to CAD 100,000 across a degree, with no essay, no extra form and no separate deadline to miss. The catch is that the money follows your grades and your timing, so the two things that matter most are a strong academic record and an application submitted well before the 1 March 2027 deadline (or 1 February 2027 for Commerce, Health Sciences and Nursing). If Queen's is on your shortlist, apply early and let the automatic assessment do the rest.
