1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
An effective leadership has been widely acknowledge as a potential instrument for achieving organization goal and objectives especially in the institute of management and technology (IMT) Enugu.
Leadership is an important aspect of managing the abiding to lead effectively is one of the keys to be an effective manager.
The essence of leadership is follower ship. In other words, it is the willingness of people to follow those whom they perceive as providing means of achieving their own desires, wants or needs. That is why any organizations that desire to achieve their objectives must have an effective and efficient leadership who knows how to apply all the management principles towards achieving their organization goals.
The leader must have the zeal, he must be one who is willing to work with zeal and confidence zeal here reflects having strong feeling, earnestness and intensity in the execution of work and confidence reflects experience and technical ability. To lead is to guide, conduct, direct etc. others to do what they want towards achieving organizational goals.
Leaders should not be people who do not stand behind a group or organization to push and to fore to do something, but leaders should act to help a group achieve objectives with the maximum application of it’s capabilities.
This is kind of leadership we desire to have in our institution, especially in the institute of management and technology.
Furthermore, it should be noted that any organization without an effective and efficient leadership is like driving a car without a head lamp in the might. This
