Psychological Well-being Between Institutional And Non Institutional Orphan Children In Gulele Sub City Addis Ababa

The purpose of this study was to compare the psychological wellbeing amongrninstitutional and non-institutional orphan children in Gulele Sub City of AddisrnAbaba. This study was conducted on randomly selected Gulele sub-city,rnparticularly in Hope for children organization, Angles children’s home andrnkechene orphanage. Hope for children organization is used to identify orphanrnchildren who are living in the community. The data were collected from 140rninstitutional and 149 non institutional orphan children whose ages range betweenrn10 and 18 years old .The data were gathered through questionnaire andrnpsychological wellbeing scale. Quantitative methods of data analysis werernemployed using percentages, t-test, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Pearsonrncorrelation. The results of the study revealed that using mid value of thernpsychological wellbeing scale, institutional orphan children are relatively notrnpsychologically well compared to the non-institutional children. On the otherrnhand, ANOVA showed that there is statistically significant difference amongrnchildren of different educational levels in terms of psychological wellbeing.rnFurthermore, the result of post Hoc comparison revealed a significant meanrndifference only between Primary and Tertiary level. Similarly, the finding fromrnPearson moment correlation revealed statistically significant negative correlationrnbetween age and children’s psychological wellbeing. However, the independentrnsamples t test revealed that orphans do not differ in their psychological wellbeingrnas a result of their current place of living and gender. The researcher, therefore,rnconcluded that rather than current place of living and gender, orphan children’srneducational background and age have impact on their psychological wellbeing.
