Lake Zeway catchment is located in the northern part of the Central Main Ethiopian riftrnvalley bounded in west and north by Awash basin; and in east by Wabi shebelerncatchment. Meki and Katar are the main rivers draining western and eastern part of therncatchment respectively and both feed Lake Ziway before outflow to Bulbula River inrnsouth west. According to the data collected from the National Meteorological ServicernAgency area has mean annual precipitation, potential evapotranspiration and actualrnevapotranspiration of 887mm, 1284mm and 856mm respectively.rnDirect groundwater recharge of the catchment was estimated using soil moisturernbudgeting method.rnGroundwater and surface water interaction in the area have been analyzed usingrngroundwater table contour method. The analysis result shows that Meki River in volcanolacustrinerndeposit of rift floor and Katar River in Upper and Central Wonji Fault Belt arernloosing reaches. In the rest of the catchment areas, the rivers and streams are gainingrnreaches. This facts are important in identifying the reaches which are continuouslyrnrecharged by the ground water. These reaches are favorable for abstraction because theirrnpotential is continuously being recharged. On the other hand for the loosing reaches thisrninformation helps us to avoid over abstraction.
