Surveys on Labour Force participation in both the fonn al and the infonnal sectors show thatrnwomen are disproportionately concentrated in certain activities, with limited access to morernremunerative enterprises. In Ethiopia, also women constitute a majority of the poor, while atrnthe .same time they constitute a larger proportion of the household heads. Even though,rnregarding the factors that make women's participation decisions in the different sector arernimportant there is no detailed study focusing on this issue in the area under investigation.rnHence, this study investigated demographic and socio-economic detenninants of maniedrnworking women labour force participation in the labour market in Hawassa CityrnAdministration of SNNPR.rnIn order to achieve the objective and requirements of the study, the methodology employedrnhere is a multistage cluster sampling design. The study employed both bi-variate and logisticrnanalysis. 599 eligible women were selected using systematic random sampling techniques inrn10 Enumeration Area (EAs) belonging to the three female labour forc e categories (fonnal,rninfonnal and non working).rnThe result of the analysis leads to the conclusion that educational status and marital stabilityrnsignificantly detennine female labour force participations in the area under study. On thernother hand, ethnicity, age, religion, migration and husband education are found insignificantrnto detennine the propensity of women participation to labour market.rnFinally, from the findings of the study it is recommended that regional state and centralrngovenunent should concentrate on increasing female labour force participation withrnappropriate policy of providing education to all females of school age as well as labourrnmarket policies, programs and initiatives need to be developed in order to improve the currentrnsituation and promote labour market participation of woman 's.rnKey words: female, working, non-working, labor force, Hawassa City Administration.
