Assessment on hazard perception of young drivers in Addis AbabarnRoad accident in Ethiopia is one of the worst accident records in the world, asrnexpressed per 10,000 vehicles. In Ethiopia, in 2004/5, 93 % of all accidents involved humanrnfactors, 5% account for vehicles factors and 2% were associated with road environmentsrnaccording to the federal police report. In Addis Ababa, taxis provide important public transportrnservice accounting 10% of the journeys. However, taxis are at the forefront of traffic incidencernaccounting for between 15.6 to 26.5%. The purpose of the present study was to investigaternhazard perception of young drivers and its impact on road traffic safety. Crossâ€“sectional studyrnwas employed to study this hazard perception of young taxi drivers in 2013 in Addis Ababa.rnPrimary data were collected from 384 young taxi drivers by using pretested questioners. Thernfindings of the study focuses on the factors related to road use that were most commonly linkedrnto an increased likelihood of young driversâ€™ crashes and injury. For young novice drivers, thesernfactors (driver skill, sensation seeking, risk taking, conscientiousness and overconfidence) werernmost usual factors involving road accident. On the basis of the findings, it was recommendedrnthat a longer-term training program encompass a comprehensive range of situations should berndesigned and implemented. Road user education and awareness raising should be given thernnecessary attention. Addis Ababa city administration and traffic police should control misuse ofrnthe scarce sidewalks by service giving enterprises.
