Establishment Of Community Based Reference Interval For Common Clinical Chemistry Parameters Among Adolescents And Children In Addis Ababa Ethiopia

Back ground: Establishment of Reference Intervals (RI) is one of the expected activities of rnmedical laboratories which enable interpretation of the laboratory results according to thernexisting local setups. Company derived values are being used to interpret results in healthrnfacilities of Addis Ababa by the absence of locally RI. rnObjective: To establish RI for common clinical chemistry parameters among apparentlyrnhealthy adolescents and children in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from April to October, 2019 rnMethods: A community based cross sectional study was conducted on a total of 516rnapparently healthy children (5-11 years) and adolescents (12-17 years) randomly selectedrnfrom Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from April to October, 2019.After interviewing the health statusrnof participants, socio demographic, nutritional status and life style data were collected usingrnstructured questionnaire. Blood (5 ml), urine (5ml) and stool (about 5 grams) samples wasrntaken and examined. Serum levels of selected clinical chemistry parameters were determinedrnusing Cobas C501. Data were entered, cleaned and analyzed by SPSS version 21. After thernexclusion of outliers using turkey method, Kolmogorov-Sminorv test was used to check itsrnnormality.
