This thesis assesses the role of Sasakawa Global 2000 Ethiopia on agricultural extension delivery inrnGumer woreda, SNNP, Ethiopia. The study has been focused on examining achievements andrnchallenges of the implementation of SEADE project implemented by SG 2000 Ethiopia collaboratingrnwith stakeholders funded by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The objective of the study is to evaluaternthe achievements and challenges of SEADE project to increase productivity of smallholder farmers byrnstrengthen the agricultural extension delivery in Gumer woredas. In doing this, exploratory andrnexplanatory approaches with qualitative and quantitative methods are employed. However, the researchrnhas involved more of qualitative than quantitative method. Purposive and random sampling techniquesrnare employed in order to select the study sites within Gumer Wereda and study respondentsrnrespectively. To collect the required primary source of data, instruments of data collection whichrninclude questionnaire, interview, focus group discussion and practical site observation were used.rnSecondary source of data to strengthen the primary source of data was also carefully examined. In thernstudy, it is revealed that Regarding research findings, erratic rainfall, low soil fertility, fragmentedrnland of households, lack of education, shortage of capital and high cost of agricultural inputs, limit ofrncredit access constrained the households while participating the SEADE project .Based on thernresults, the study concluded that SEAD project was valuable and relevant to smallholder farmers’rnagricultural activity needs and agricultural productivity of the study area. The major recommendationsrnput forwarded are accelerating the agricultural extension delivery sustainably; capacitating andrnmotivating with attractive incentive of DAs; timely provision of agricultural inputs and subsides;rnfacilitating market linkage both for farm inputs and products by development partners; increasing thernnumber of FTCs; and finally using low cost water harvest irrigation technologies with high yieldingrnvarieties and related packages.rnKey words : agricultural extension delivery, Sasakawa Global 2000 Ethiopia, Bill &rnMelinda Gates Foundation, Gumer woreda, smallholder farmers, SEADE project
