A community based cross sectional study was conducted inrnGulele district, Addis Ababa to asses the utilization patterns ofrnantenatal care services and the factors affecting antenatal carernattendance and preference of place of delivery.rnA total of 441 pregnant women in the third trimester from 24rnout of the 27 kebeles of the district were included in the study tornwhom pretested questionnaire were administered.rnThe study showed that about 39 % of the third trimesterrnpregnant women had not attended antenatal clinics at all. Only 26%rnof those attending antenatal care clinics had their first visitrnduring the first trimester. The most important reason for notrnattending antenatal care clinics was being too busy (49.2%).rnOut of a total of 15.8 points, the mean knowledge score on MCHrn-rnfor those attending antenatal care clinics was 10.9±2.1 whereas itrnwas 7.42± 2.5 for those not attending antenatal care.rnIn mUltiv
