Road traffic accidents (RTAs) are a major public health concern, resulting in an estimated 1.2rnMillion deaths and 50 million injuries worldwide in each year (Tibebe B. and Shawndra H.,rn2005). In the developing world, Road traffic accidents (RTAs) are among the leading cause ofrndeath and injury; Ethiopia in particular experiences the highest rate of such accidents.rnThe main aim of the study was to analyze the Impacts of Speed and Traffic volume at Black spotrnareas in Addis Abeba city. To identify the black spot areas carried out field data observation andrnidentifying major urban road traffic accident black-spots which was a sub city based analysis ofrnevidences from the city of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and identified the major accident black spots inrneach sub-city of Addis Ababa separately. For this purpose, secondary data also obtained fromrnAddis Ababa City Traffic police commission employed.rnFinally, this research presents Traffic Volume, Speed study results, capacity and level of servicernof the selected black spot areas. Accordingly, KaraKore – W/Mariam and Torhailoch – Bethelrnhave a level of service of B while Total – Zenebework have LOS of A. However, the segmentsrnare currently satisfactorily serving. Synthesis of strategies designed to improve urbanrntransportation Safety and efficiency by targeting speeding and traffic volumes as improvingrnpedestrian facilities in urban areas such as those found in Addis Ababa city.
