Effects And Outcomes Of Community Care Coalitions On Child Protection In Gullele Sub- City Woreda 3 Addis Ababa

This study aims to assess the results a community care coalition (CCC) has brought on thernlives of vulnerable and orphan children in Gullele Sub- City woreda 3, Addis Ababa. Thernresearch is conducted under the constructivist paradigm. The research is a qualitative studyrnexploring the effectiveness of community care coalitions for child protection through a singlerncase study design with exploratory nature. The unit of analysis was community care coalitionrnwith a case of “community care coalition at gullele sub city woreda 3.” Purposive, nonprobabilityrnsampling was employed to collect data from vulnerable children, coalitionrnmembers, households and concerned higher institutions.rnThe target population of the study is CCC members and beneficiaries. It engagedrnbeneficiaries of the CCC and members and organizers of the coalition through in-depthrninterviews, key informant interviews and focus group discussions based on different inclusionrncriteria for each group. The researcher’s observation and review of different documents arernthe other sources of data for the research. To analyze all the data collected, the studyrnfollowed the coding approach. On the coding stage those summarized data that are collectedrnthrough those five data collection methods used, were summarized under four codes to makernthe data clearer for discussion.rnThe study identified that services delivered for the beneficiaries have brought positive impactrnon the lives of beneficiary OVCs at different levels. Based on their level of effectiveness thernstudy classified services in to three: as effective, less effective and not effective or not wellrnimplemented. The study has also identified that different strategies followed by the coalitionrncontributed for its effectiveness. However, there are also limitations in properlyrnimplementing those strategies, which could help a lot for the coalition’s success. On the otherrnhand, the CCC faces different challenges, which are hindering it from achieving its maximumrnefficiency.rnThe study recommends the CCC to strengthen its resource mobilization techniques so that itrncould diversify and strengthen the services delivered for OVCs. It could also strengthenrnservices like counseling and health care through revising its strategies. Diversifying itsrnmembers directly affects those two services. Therefore, the study recommends the CCC to gornthrough the implementation techniques of the strategies.
