Some people live their lives in quiet service to others. Albert “Bert” Howie was one of those people. A dedicated paramedic who cared deeply about his community, Bert spent his life helping those in need.
Securing a Fully Funded Scholarship is only the first step. Many Nigerian students are now utilizing No-Cosigner Student Loans through providers like MPOWER Financing and Prodigy Finance to cover living expenses in the USA, Canada, and the UK.
If you are applying to Ivy League or Russell Group Universities, look for programs offering Graduate Assistantships. Many top-tier universities are currently granting GRE and GMAT Waivers for African applicants with strong professional backgrounds or high GPAs from recognized institutions.
For Canada and the US, a WES Course-by-Course Evaluation is often mandatory. Additionally, if your degree was taught in English, you may qualify for an IELTS/TOEFL Waiver, saving you significant costs during the Graduate Admissions process.
After his passing, his family created the Albert “Bert” Howie Memorial Scholarship to keep his spirit of service alive — by supporting students who share his drive to make a difference.
This scholarship supports students at Del Mar College in Texas, especially those working toward paramedic certification or other healthcare-related fields. It’s a way to continue Bert’s mission: helping others and building stronger, more caring communities.

That’s it — no complicated requirements or long forms.
The committee wants to see students who care deeply about helping others. They value authenticity over perfection.
