The ever increasing human population is creating significant stress on urban centersrnglobally. Simultaneously, urban green infrastructures are becoming integral rncomponents of urban centers to relieve them from the ill effects of rapid urbanization.rnEthiopia has drafted various policies and strategies, which are in favor of urban rngreen infrastructures, for the proper development of its urban centers. The NUGIS is rnone of such documents that the country has drafted to implement such policies and rnstrategies in its urban context. On the contrary, Addis Ababa’s street greenery rndevelopment, which is part of the UGI of the city, is found to be unsatisfactory and its rnspace allocation for street greenery is inadequate.rnThe current practice of space allocation for street greenery in Addis Ababa by the rnresponsible institutions is analyzed from the perspective of regulation, human rnresource and inter-institutional involvement. To address the research objectives, the rnstudy used qualitative and quantitative research approaches. Accordingly 23 streets rnwere investigated and design data were generated. Similarly, to answer the level ofrnknowledge, attitude and practice of the professional staffs and the level of inter institutional involvement among responsible institutions, an in-depth interview was rnconducted with 21 professionals from four institutions and results presented.rnFindings show that, the NUGIS has no influence on the process of Addis Ababa’s rnspace allocation for street greenery. Furthermore, the standard is also found to be rnunknown by the majority of the officials and professionals in the responsible rninstitutions investigated under this study. On the other hand, the officials and rnprofessionals are found to exhibit a high level of positive attitude towards having rnnational standards, such as the NUGIS. They are also highly willing to abide by rnthese national standards, if they are made available.rnThe research recommends that effort has to be made to enhance the influence of the
