The purposes of this study were (1) to assess the organizational-~iim-;te or seniorrnsecondary schools in Southern Ethiopia and to determine if differences exist among thernschools in their level of openness and teachers' intimacy, and (2) to determine if somernvariables such as staff size, principals and teachers personality characteristics (sex, age,rnlength of teaching and administrative experiences, level of education and field ofrnspecialization) have relationships with senior seco.ndary school openness and teachers'rnintimacy.rnThe data were collected from documents and through questionnaire and interviewrnwith 393 teachers and 12 school principals. Various statistical techniques such asrnCronbach s alpha coefficient, chi- square, ANOV A and Scheffe' test were used to analysernthe data.rnThe outcome of the data analysis revealed significant differences among the seniorrnsecondary schools in their level of openness and teachers' intimacy. The study alsornindicated that most of the senior secondary schools had less open climate and low intimacyrnof teachers.rnOn the whole, the results disclosed that staff size and some of principals'rnpersonality characteristics (age, length of administrative experience and field ofrnspecialization) had significant relationships with senior secondary school openness.rnMoreover, the findings showed significant association between staff size, principals fieldrnof specialization and senior secondary school teachers' intimacy.rnFinally, constant assessment and practices associated with fostering positive climaternto develop harmonious working relationship among the staff members, the formation andrnutilization of a small group of staff advisory council in schools, maintenance of reducedrnstaff size, boosting the morale of principals and teachers, and further investigation as tornwhy principals with training in EDAD tend to develop less favorable school climate werernforwarded as major recommendations in order to improve the organi..zational climate ofrnthe senior secondary schools
