This study made its objective to be assessing the practice and problems ofrneducational materials resource management in selected government generalrnsecondary schools in Addis Ababa. It was concerned with materialrnmanagement functions (such as, planning, purchasing distribution, controllingrnetc), challenges faced for effective management and utilization of educationalrnmaterial management, and implementation of policies and guidelines. To meetrnalready stated objective descriptive survey design is used to carry out thisrnstudy. This is so because the design helps to obtain first hand informationrnfrom multiple sources. Four groups of respondents were participated in thernstudy. These were academic and administrative staff, sub city officers andrnPTSA members. As of study areas, 3 sub cities and 6 schools were selectedrnrandomly. Respondents were selected by purposive sampling technique due torntheir direct relation with the issue under study and also to gain sufficientrninformation. Availability and simple random sampling techniques were alsornemployed. The data was collected through questionnaire, interviews andrnpersonalrnobservation.rnDatarngatheredrnthroughrnquestionnairernwerernquantitatively analyzed using SPSS percentage, mean value whereas the datarngathered through interview open ended questions and observation werernqualitatively analyzed. Having gone through these all the study found out thatrnparticipation of stake holders in material management function process werernnot run properly.rnIntegrated material management functions were notrnproperly implemented. Lack of training and continuous supervision in the arearnof educational material management was challenging.rnBased on thesernfindings, it is found legitimate to forward some recommendation. Thereforerncapacitating professionals’ through training assist users in putting thesernmaterials in to effective usage. To develop positive attitude towards thernmanagement and utilization of educational materials, school managementsrnshould work closely with the school community and stakeholders. Organizedrnand integrated education materials management system should be designedrnby concerned bodies to utilize and manage materials properly.
