The purpose of this study was to assess the current status of instructional leadershiprneffectiveness and to investigate some of the factors that affect its provision in public primaryrnsecond cycle of ATJK Woreda. Two research questions were used and a simple random samplingrntechnique was employed to select sample schools. Further, 92 teachers (65males and 27 females)rnwere selected using systematic sampling technique. Questionnaires, FGD and interviewrninstruments were applied for this study. A questionnaire that consists of 44 items was employedrnto collect data which was analyzed using mean ratings and ranking. Findings indicated that thernextent of provision of instructional support to teachers by the head teachers was low.FGD madernwith teachers and supervisors also indicated that, the sampled school principals conducted classrnroom observations rarely and also did not provide constructive feedback as of lack skills on howrnto conduct supervision. It was also found out that personal and organizational characteristicsrnwere affecting the success of principals in their instructional leadership practices. In conclusion,rnthe head teachers did not sufficiently provide instructional leadership and support to teachers.rnAmong the recommendation was that the Ministry of Education should provide special financialrnsupport to the primary schools in ATJK Woreda to ensure equitable quality educational at allrnareas.
