The Influence Of Secondary School Leadership Style On Teachers Job Performance The Case Of Lalo Asabi District Government Secondary Schools Of Oromia Region
The purpose of this study was to assess the influence of secondary school leadership style on the teachers’ job performance (teachers, department heads and vice principals) in secondary schools of Lalo Asabi district, West Wollega Zone, Oromia region. Descriptive survey research design was employed to conduct the study. All the government secondary schools found in the woreda under the study were selected by using availability sampling technique, except one secondary school, which was taken for the pilot test to measure the reliability of the instrument used in the study. Hence from the rest of five (5) government secondary schools, 131 teachers, 20 department heads, 5school principals, and 5 vice principals were the subjects of the study. Data was collected through questionnaire and interview. Frequency and Percentages, were used to analyze and interpret the data collected through questionnaire. The evidence gathered in the study reveals that secondary school leadership style can have influence on the employees’ job performance.Regarding to the roles of school leadership, the findings of the study revealed that the school leaders failed to promote their leadership responsibilities.Regarding to factors affecting the employees’ job performance in the school, the finding indicated that the leadership style, the leader’s personal behavior, the culture in the school (organizational culture), in availabilities of smooth relationship between the school leaders and the staff members, problems in decision making processes, absence of good leadership in the school, absence of involvement of teachers in decision making concerning to their job in the school, teachers do not have freedom to communicate to their school leader, leaders do not motivate their subordinates , the working conditions in the school are the hindering factors to the employees’ job performance in the school under the study.School leadership has key roles to influence the teachers’ job performance positively or negatively. Hence, the effectiveness of the school leadership in the involvement and participation of the teachers and the staff members is a good device to promote the teachers’ job performance.
