The purpose of the study is to analyze the principals’ style of leadership on teachers’rnperformance in Government Secondary Schools of Addis Ababa. To this end, descriptive surveyrndesignee and mixed research method was employed. The subjects in this study were 121rnteachers, and 24 principals a total of 145respondents. Simple random sampling technique wasrnemployed to select respondents of the study. Frequency count, percentage mean and median wasrnused to analyze the collected data. The study used more of a quantitative method; Questionnairernand observation were the main instruments of data collection. By using simple random samplingrntogether with mixed research method, the result of the study revealed that insufficientrnpreparation of school leaders for planning, lack of creating a positive school environment,rndiscomfort within the school environment, leaders’ political involvement and practices werernidentified. Furthermore, unfair delegation process and weak communication of leaders werernidentified as the main challenges. Therefore based on the findings, the researcher recommendsrnthat the education offices in each sub-city and the Addis Ababa education bureau, need to comernface to face and discuss ways to assignee trained and professional leaders, principals includingrnthe provision of adequate training and administrative support for School leaders. All these willrnhelp the principals to practice and exercise effective leadership style and take necessaryrnmeasures to minimize the level of dissatisfaction in the school environment
