The very purpose of this research paper was to make an assessment forrnthe realization of the right to education in the laws and policies of Ethiopia.rnIn addition, the study also aimed at identifying the extent of protectionrngiven to this right under the laws and policies of the country. To this end, rnin this research, the researcher employed qualitative content analysisrnresearch method to better understand the protection given to the right torneducation under the federal and regional constitutions, different policiesrnand laws. The study concluded that the laws and policies including thernconstitution of the country do not clearly stipulate the right to education inrnthe same and similar manner like the UDHRs, ICESCRs and otherrninternational human right instruments did. Moreover, the FDRErnconstitution, which devoted 16 articles for the democratic rights, did notrndevote any article about the right of every person to education. Thernregional constitutions also did say anything about the people’s right torneducation. Ethiopia has also made different policies which are directlyrnrelated with children, women and youth. However, none of these policiesrnclearly stipulate the right of these groups to education. Finally the studyrnrecommended that in order to tackle absence of clear provision in the rightrnto education, the ministry of education and other respective organs need tornissue special legislations and policies that address people’s right to thernright to education. In addition to the law making, it is recommended thatrnthe ministry of education and other relevant offices need to incorporate thernright to education on the text books and other materials to teach andrnaware the people.
