The diversity, relative abundance and some aspects of the biology of fish species in Lake Abayarnwere studiedfi'om August to September 2015. One thousand forty three (1043) fish speciemnsrnwere collected using gil/nets of 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14 cm stretched mesh sizes, having a length ofrn100 m and a depth of2 m. Fishfauna harvestedji'om Algae (123), Bayiso (151), Shigima (222),rnGuji (410) and Gidabo (137) were identified based on their morphometric and meristicsrncharacters following the key developed for Ethiopian fish fauna. Out of the total catch S. schallrnwere the most abundant fish at all the sampling sites in the lake, with Bayiso site having thernhighest abundance of 58.2% followed by Guji (56.3%), Shigima (44.6%) and the least wasrnGidabo (31.4%). The diversity index was higher at the Gidabo (I. 71) follolYing Algae, GlIji,rnBayiso and Shigima lYith the IRI value of 1.6, 1.44, 1.17 and 1.15, respectively. S. schalllYas thernmost important fish species at Algae, Guji and Bayiso with IRl values of 42.88%, 60.54% andrn53.57%, respectively. Length-lYeight relationship of the dominant species; S. schall (b=2.56), L.rnbynni (b=3.1), C. gariepinus (b=2.43), and O. niloticus (b=2.59) lYas curvilinear and significantrn(P
